Why it costs so little
Rugged Android scanners ship with a keyboard wedge built in — Zebra calls it DataWedge, Honeywell calls it Scan Wedge, Datalogic just calls it Wedge. When it is switched on, the scanner behaves exactly like a keyboard: it types the barcode into whatever field is focused, then presses Enter. Bluetooth ring scanners and the old corded gun on your counter do the same thing in HID mode.
So there is nothing to “connect”. No SDK licence, no per-device driver, no middleware. The work is turning on a setting that is already on the device — which is why it is part of the build here instead of a separate four-figure line item.

- Open DataWedge on the device
- Select the Profile0 (default) profile (or create one for Chrome)

What about the old UPS scanner?
Carrier-supplied units are usually locked to that carrier’s own software and cannot be repurposed — that part is genuinely not fixable by anyone, at any price. The good news is you do not need it: the new Android units handle every carrier at once, so UPS, FedEx, USPS and Purolator all land in one list instead of one system per carrier.
